FO Friday!

I should sub-title this post "So Many FOs, So Little Time!"

It's been a while since I posted an FO Friday, so I have several things to share!

First, I have a pair of socks that I made for another Ravelry user as part of a swap. They are kid-sized to fit her young son, and made of Malabrigo Sock in a basic 2x2 rib pattern.

Next, I made a Bitty Bug Hat out of a lonely skein of Mochi Plus. I will say that I'm not the biggest fan of this pattern. It turns out nice, but I think it could be constructed in a more sensible way.

Last Monday I broke my foot at work, which obviously necessitated some knitted accessorizing. I used scraps leftover from previous projects, and a free pattern by Heather Jackson, and whipped up these:

And finally, I took a class last weekend on two-handed Fair Isle, and made this lovely hat:

All in all, I've been a very busy K8erpillar! What have you finished recently?

FO Friday

Edit 8/31/13: I tried to post this last night but for some reason it didn't go through.

My Navona is finally finished! It is blocking as I type and I couldn't be happier. I was really relieved when I took it out of the water and found that it had relaxed a TON, just as the swatch did. I'm now totally confident that it will be the right size and fit comfortably without any aggressive stretching or pulling in the blocking.

It's still soaked, so I can't model for a photo, but here's a picture of it laid out to dry:

I am really looking forward to starting a new project. I think Color Affection is in my near future...

WIP Wednesday

I am really making progress on my Navona this week! Oh the wonders of (nearly) monogamous knitting! I only have one more stripe of the contrast color to go, which will only be 2 rows. I'm hoping to have the body finished by the end of the week.

So far, I think I'm on track to have this sweater finished by the end of the month for Camp Loopy project #3. I'm really proud of how much I've been able to accomplish. I am off from work next week and plan to get a ton of knitting done on this and a few other projects.

WIP Wednesday

I have a new WIP to share this week! I'm working on my third and final project for Camp Loopy 2013. The pattern is called Navona and I'm working it in two colors of Malabrigo Sock (my new FAVORITE yarn): Eggplant and Lotus. I love how the body incorporates stripes; they really make the stockinette portion seem less tedious.

I have two FOs to share this week!

I finished my Conference Socks on Wednesday evening. Glad to have another old WIP off the needles at last! Too bad it's way too hot to wear them!

I also finished another project. I have been participating in Camp Loopy with The Loopy Ewe, and I finished my first camp project. The pattern is To Infinity and Beyond by Joji Locatelli, and the yarn is Malabrigo Sock in the Zarzamora colorway.

Even though it was hot, I still wanted to model it for a picture. TMG played photographer for me.

WIP Wednesday

It's WIP Wednesday, and I have been busy with some WIPs over the past few weeks. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Little Owl #2
You might recognize this pattern, as I recently finished knitting one of these little owls for my mom. One of her friends thought it was a real hoot (sorry... couldn't help myself), and so I'm making a second one for her. It just needs wings, feet, and stuffing. She requested it in green for St. Patrick's Day.

Just call me Patty!

2. Moosejaw Hat
This is a hat that I'm making for a friend of mine. He asked me oh-so-nicely to make it for him about 2 years ago, and I forgot all about it until my husband reminded me a week or so ago. I'm designing it to feature his nickname, "Moosejaw" in colorwork, along with a moose. I'm working it in Plymouth Sockotta yarn, which is a blend of cotton, wool, and nylon. It has, unfortunately, been discontinued.

Don't worry, that's not the infamous "naughty moose."

3. North Whales Road Sweater
This sweater, which I'm making with Malabrigo Worsted in the Lola Gilet pattern, got put on the back burner when I was away over Thanksgiving and needed to sit down and make up a spreadsheet for the left front decreases. It was languishing in its project bag until this weekend, when I decided to take action. I feel so foolish now for letting it linger so long; it took me only a few minutes to work out the decrease spreadsheet, and not much longer than that to work up the 40-ish decrease rows. Worsted weight yarn on size 9 needles just flies by, as it turns out, especially when each row has so few stitches.

The back is finished, and I'm working on the left front.

4. Finally, I recently pulled my Cabled Quasi-Crew socks out of hibernation. I made the first sock as a test-knit back in October of 2010, and never got around to making the second one. I have to admit, though I love the way that cables look, I find them rather tedious to make, which is probably why this has been unloved for so long. They are made out of Knit Picks Essential sock yarn (the old version of Knit Picks Stroll) in African Violets.

WIP Wednesday

My recent bout of finishitis seems to have passed, and last week I cast on a new project. I am making a Lola Gilet out of Malabrigo worsted in the Whales Road colorway, which I have christened my "North Whales Road" sweater as a play on both the name of the color and the name of the town where I recently moved. I am making quick progress on this project, and can't wait to wear it. This is my third sweater in Malabrigo, the other two being my Featherweight Cardigan and my Persimmon Cardigan, respectively.


I realized today that this should probably be my last new "for-me" project before I commence with my Christmas knitting. Whether or not it will be, well, that could very well be a different story. With only 74 knitting days left before Christmas (yes, you read that right, 74!), I am determined to budget my time appropriately!

I'm baaaaa-aaaack!
Sorry for the week+ of radio silence here on the blog. A lot has been happening in the work and personal realm. I'll write a few sentences about that at the end so that those of you who are here for the knitting can get right at the good part!

Today's FO Friday is a bit of a cheat... I actually had it finished in time for last week's FO Friday, but then the aforementioned "life happens" bit... happened. So, for your perusing pleasure, behold my Malabrigo Mitts!

These mitts are made from a partial skein of Malabrigo Worsted in Shocking Pink that I had left over from my Brattleboro Hat. The pattern is 75-yard Malabrigo Fingerless Mitts and is available for free. Mine only took about 64 yards, but who's counting? If only it weren't nearly 100 degrees this week, I am just dying to wear them!

Now on to other news. TMG and I are going through some major life changes (all good, just stressful). I recently accepted a new job and am working on the transition out of my current job, as well as trying to find a new apartment in PA where the new job is. Meanwhile, TMG has to try to find a new job as well, and is crunching all of the numbers to figure out how we will stay afloat financially in the meantime! The move is very exciting, especially because it will take me closer to my family and friends, but is always stressful, particularly because I start there in less than 3 weeks and we don't have an apartment yet! So, for those of you who are inclined to say prayers, cross fingers, send good thoughts, or whatever, they would all be much appreciated!
